Model: VW Beetle Deluxe
Year: 1961
Colour: Original VW Turquoise
Seats: 2 plus our driver
Betsy is our 1962 VW Beetle and she may well be almost one of a kind. There are plenty of Beetles out there but you will struggle to find one with Betsy’s charm, character and originality.
She has always been a UK car and her first owner only used her to do “a bit of shopping” after which she was put back in her garage every time. This continued for over 35 years until the lady owner at the age of 90 decided to “hang up her keys”. So in 1998 Betsy had still only done 17,000 miles – roughly 500 miles a year!
Since that time she has been in the hands of a small number of enthusiasts who have maintained and indeed improved on her wonderful heritage and condition. She still has her original paint colour of VW Turquoise (yes, the same as Clyde’s – they do look great together) which has been touched up here and there as and when required. Inside she is as the day she left the showroom, people are stunned at how clean and unmarked her Ivory seats are and pristine carpet and fittings.
She now still has only 33,000 miles on the clock and she drives like a dream with her original mechanics and engine – there is nothing like that original VW Beetle exhaust note!
So please do not confuse our Vintage VWs with similar vehicles you may find out there – they are the best of their kind you will find in the UK today.

Year: 1964
Colour: Original VW Turquoise / Cream

Clyde started his life way back in May 1964 when he rolled off the VW production line as a Type 2 Microbus (very techy). He was destined for a career in USA Tourism so was built as a left hand drive model. He was painted in VW Turquoise and cream, colours he stills wears today , and he also still retains all his internal panelling and headlining in matching Cosmos Green.
Sadly we have not managed to find out much about his nearly 45 years in sunny California but the climate over there meant that when he was brought back to Blightly in 2008 he was in remarkably good condition, having seen virtually no wet weather.
His new owner set about a comprehensive restoration and refurbishment program that ended up lasting nearly 5 years. During this time he had all his mechanics replaced or modernised. He has been kitted out inside as a touring van and he can provide overnight accommodation with his fold down “rock and roll” bed. He also sports some great up to date technology with an onboard DVD player and ipod/MP3 music system. No expense has been spared in ensuring Clyde is one of the best of his kind you will find the UK today – so much so he was the Concourse winner in his class at the prestigious Tatton Park Classic car show in 2010.
He is very photogenic and truly adds value for any photo opportunity – particularly weddings.

Sammy the Samba is our restored 1963 Splitscreen campervan. He has 23 windows in total and a full length retractable sunroof. Sammy took two years to restore to concours condition and is already acknowledged as one of the best of his kind in all of the UK. He is like a new car! Sporting fabulous colours of sealing wax red and beige grey he has three full rows of seats and can seat 7 persons plus our driver in comfort and style. Only the very best from Lovelywheels. Sammy has just won the 2023 VW concourse event at Tatton Park.
